    The Government is investing an extra £20 billion a year in the NHS. The NHS has produced a ‘Long Term Plan’ setting out the things it wants health services to do better for people across the country. Whilst the national plan has set some clear goals, it’s up to local areas to decide how they’re achieved – that means engaging with local people and listening to their experiences and expectations of current and future services.

    Healthwatch Ealing gathers insights from local people about their experiences with local NHS services - including but not limited to hospitals, GPs, dentists, and social care providers. This gives us a chance to find out what is working well, what isn't and what needs to be improved - which can be relayed to the appropriate service, Trust and CCG.

    The Healthwatch Ealing Patient Experience Team has been visiting health and social care settings across the borough since July 2017, gathering feedback from patients on their experience of General Practice and other services.

    With the advent of Covid-19, Healthwatch Ealing wanted to hear from local people about whether their access to health and social care services had been impacted and how they were accessing information in a rapidly changing situation.     Healthwatch Ealing and Healthwatch Hounslow have, along with a number of other Healthwatchs across England, been asked by Healthwatch England and the NHS England Improvement Team to participate in a project aimed at developing and testing a qualitative methodology to assess how well local health and care providers are delivering joined up care to individuals.

    From July 2021, Healthwatch Ealing partnered with Ealing Council to identify how adult residents living with disabilities and their unpaid family carers have been affected by the pandemic, including their experiences of the Health and Social Care system.

    Historically, Housebound individuals have rarely been engaged with by statutory and community organisations and, therefore, their experiences and opinions of the care that they receive are seldom heard. As a result of this lack of engagement and representation, there is a national concern that not enough is known about the quality of home care service delivery. To address these concerns at a local level, Healthwatch Ealing sought to hear from Ealing residents who are housebound.
