Enter and View - Community Road Mental Health Hostel

Our team at Healthwatch Ealing conducted an announced Enter and View at Community Road Mental Health Hostel on the 23rd of June 2021 from 10am to 1:30pm.

Healthwatch Enter and Views are arranged to find out how health and social care services are being run, and make recommendations where there are areas for improvement.

Key Information

  • The service reported that all residents had a comprehensive support plan and risk assessment/crisis management plan in place
  • Community Road work to accommodate the needs, preferences, likes and dislikes of people living at the residence. This includes activities, food preferences and ways of working with staff.
  • Staff and people are aware of how to give feedback and encourage to do so with the one person interviewed indicating that there are regular meetings that give people the opportunity to feedback or discuss any concerns.
  • All staff participate in regular staff meetings which give them the opportunity to feedback and highlight any concerns which are then dealt with swiftly and effectively by management.

Key Recommendations

  • Continue to keep lines of communication with residents open regarding their suggestions for activities they would like to participate in. Now that COVID-19 restrictions are beginning to ease this could include the regular outings and weekly group meals that the resident who was interviewed had suggested, if appropriate.
  • Additional training and development opportunities for members of staff at Community Road are made easily accessible and are regularly distributed and encouraged.
  • Within the parameters of these policies, Community Road staff should encourage people to make their rooms a more inviting and warmer environment with personal belongings and
    decoration.
